fresh, distinctive projects with a clear hook and the potential to stand out in a crowded market.
Orogen has backed everything from major horror franchises to festival gems. They want to see commercially viable, clearly budgeted, gap/collateral-ready projects with an experienced team, strong hook, and proven market appeal. In short - projects with both creative spark and financial readiness.
Genres They’re Actively Seeking
● Elevated psychological or supernatural horror - really scary, original ideas, strong
theme
● Action and genre films - including action comedies
● Twisty dark comedies - think Fargo, Ingrid Goes West
● Big, funny, global comedies - in the Ben Stiller / Will Ferrell / Judd Apatow vein
What They’re Not Looking For
● Heavy dramas
Budget & Financing Requirements
● Sweet spot: $5M–$15M
● Minimum: $3M
● Can go big: $40M+ if strong collateral is in place
When to Apply
● Willing to look at projects at an early stage (before sales agent or cast are attached),
but attachments already in place is ideal
● Directorial debuts welcome as long as strong producers and cast are attached
● Will also consider strong last-minute packages
How to Apply
1. Create your pitch on SMASH and complete all sections of your Snapshot - including
finance and budget.
2. Hit ‘Share Project’ to generate your project Snapshot.
3. Submit it to the Orogen Callout on SMASH.
